A Little Marimba’Esque by Wesley Taylor

This piece draws on the composer’s love of Latin and Flamenco musical traditions to create an energetic and accessible work for the intermediate percussion ensemble. Scored for 8 percussionists it features marimbas, timpani, bass drum, temple blocks and three groups of performers clapping hands, which can be augmented at will.

Xylophones can be used in place of marimbas.

Instrumentation/Suggested Stage Setup:

Hand Clap Group 1 – stage right

Hand Clap Group 2 – stage left

Hand Clap Group 3 – stage centre

Marimba 1 – centre left

Marimba 2 – centre right

3 Timpani (F#, A and B) – stage left of marimbas

Bass Drum – stage right of marimbas

Temple Blocks – squeezed in there somewhere
