I Shiver by Shannon Rogers

In the dream-like work “I Shiver” Shannon Rogers sets out to create a piece that depicts the experience of envisioned images, sounds, and other sensations during sleep, and the feelings and emotions that accompany them. I Shiver is an enjoyable, emotionally sophisticated piece accompanied by a constant rhythmic groove that captures feelings of joy, anger, and pure excitement.

It is scored for eight players – seven percussionists and a bass player, and suits players of an intermediate/advanced skill level.

Instrumentation:

Player 1 – Glockenspiel (2 mallets)

Player 2 – Vibraphone 1 (bowed, 2 mallets)

Player 3 – Vibraphone 2 (bowed, 2 & 4 mallets)

Player 4 – Marimba 1 (2 & 3 mallets)

Player 5 – Marimba 2 (2 & 4 mallets) & suspended cymbal

Player 6 – Marimba 3 (2 mallets)

Player 7 – Electric bass

Player 8 – Drum kit
